This is my edition of Prom For Dummies. This is advice for all of the future promgoers based on my experience. All this advice is because of things I noticed, not things I necessarily did myself. This is more aimed towards guys since this is my POV, but I think girls can get something out of this as well. Hope this helps some:
Chapter 1: Your Date. My suggestion is don't even worry about who you want to go with, or who you plan to ask until at least one month before prom. Senior year is crazy. Its the year where people get together the last second, secret crushes and romances come out, and its the most unpredictable time of the year!! Take my word, you have a better chance of winning the lottery, getting struck by lightening, and then winning the lottery again than you do predicting who will get together. Don't even think about it yet.
Chapter 2: Being Punctual. Guys, your date will never be on time. If they say meet them at 4:00, be there at 4:30, because you know she won't be ready until 5:00. I suggest bringing a magazine, or a gameboy. If your date has a known habit of being late, consider a pillow.
Chapter 3: Skanky Equals Stanky. Ladies, please, don't dress skanky for your prom. I know girls want to show off as much skin as possible, but I feel this is the one time of the year where being classy is important. During the school year, you can go ahead and show all the boobies you want, but not this one night. Don't be known as Ms. Slutsky of the prom. Would you like it if i walked around prom with my balls hanging out? I didnt think so.
Chapter 4: Word Spreads Like Wildfire. Guys, be aware, girls have this network that works faster than dsl. I had people coming up to me who never talked to me at all, but they knew my name last night because they knew my date. Girls will know you based on your date, so don't be surprised. I people coming up to me this past month saying "ohhh, so you're Allan," while I walked down the halls. It's like your face was suddenly on the cover of Time Magazine for being Man of the Year, and you're suddenly being recognized 4 years into high school.
Chapter 5: Girls Night. Prom isn't for guys, in fact, I'm sure prom was invented by a girl. No guy would ever design a formal dance such as this one. And that leads me to my point, that this night is for the girls. As soon as prom starts, every guy loses his freedom, his personality, and his name. Guys suddenly become property, and piece of equipment that the girl has to show off to her other girl friends. You no longer represent yourself men, you represent your date. If you mess up, it reflects totally on your date.
Well, that's all I have to say. And by the way, yes, I did have a good time at prom, it was definately a new experience. Guess I'll go try to find my freedom again, bye!
