I was getting a haircut yesterday when I noticed a white guy with two chinese kids. So I immediately figured he was their step dad, or will be in the future. Then the kids Chinese mom comes into the place and tells the barber how to cut her white boyfriend's hair. And that got me thinking, it must be weird being the only white guy in that place and getting a haircut. It also must be weird walking down Irving as a white guy with two Chinese kids. That made me think, what would I do for love? Would I ever consider marrying someone who isn't Chinese? Or Asian? I have lots of cousins in Canada who have married whites because in Canada, Asians are really a minority. And as for black guys, there are so few that I bet a map of Canada shows all the black guys in the country. I know a few of my relatives didn't like the fact there are inter-racial marriages in my family. I guess I've gotten so used to SF and its diversity that I've accepted them. I'm sure many of you remember my blog about my asian cousin and her boyfriend who looks like Tiger Woods. He isn't black, I forget what he is exactly, but he's very darked skinned. And they have a boy who looks like Tiger Woods too, and his grandpa refuses to hug him or kiss him because he's "different."
I know people who will only marry another Chinese girl/guy. I guess I do see myself marrying someone who is Chinese, but I think it would be wrong of me to say to myself that's only who I'll go after, because a few of the girls I've been attracted to in the past haven't been. It's just something to keep an open mind about, for me at least.
At math camp, I noticed kids like to play YuGio cards. It's the latest fad. I remember Pokemon used to be cool, then Digimon cards. Now YuGio. Kids are buying them and trading with each other, I think that's pretty cool. Then that mades me wonder if I look stupid collecting baseball cards. I know I'm 18, but that's my hobby. I think people associate baseball cards with 8 year old boys, but it's nothing like that at all. It's just the same with comics, barbies, beanie babies, anime, computer games, video games, stamps, or coins. People tend to have a steriotipical picture in their head for each hobby. Here's what I think of when I think of them. Comics-Steve Jang. Barbies-Some 40 year old white lady. Beanie Babies-Some 40 year old white lady. Anime-Japanese people. Computer Games-Geeks. Video Games-Nerds. Stamps-40 year old white men. Coins-Nathan. So I bet you're wondering how many of these hobbies I've been a part of or considered (even if just for a few days). The answer is: 6. You can figure out which ones.
Grad banquet is tonight in two hours. I helped "decorate" last night, but last I heard, Nathan took down one of my decorations. I thought they were good. Elisa thought so! If Elisa thinks it's cool, then it must be cool. People need to have a sense of humor.
I'll be back later in the week, hopefully with stories from tonight. Bye!
