I have to write an essay this weekend, and I always do my best writing on Friday nights. I'm just stalling right now by posting on here. I guess I'll begin writing after this entry. Here's what's on my mind.
School has been hard. There's a lot of pressure to keep my GPA up right now, all of that pressure being put on by me. I honestly think there's more pressure to maintain a 3.5 at CCSF than going to a "regular" college because there's really no margin for error. My parent's don't really talk to me about grades and studying, which is good. There's just a lot of uncertainty in my classes right. For last semester, there were 2 or 3 classes which I knew I had an A in by the time finals came around, so that was comforting. But for this semester, there is no "easy A" class because the finals are weighed HEAVILY in my opinion (like 30% of your grade), and that's hor-ree-blay as Pat would say. I'm a really big worrywort, you can't imagine how much I worry sometimes. I hate stressing about grades because in a way, you can't always control your destiny, no matter how much you study. But CCSF hasn't been as bad as Lowell. At Lowell, it's just brutal: the teachers try to trick you on tests.
But anyway, applications for transferring is next month, so I need to start getting ready to fill them out. I have to write 3 personal statements! Two are 200 words, and one is 600 words. I don't know how well you can answer a question in 200 words. I'd rather they just give me one 1000 word essay. My brother doesn't even think they read the essays, they just look at GPA. The good thing about me having an agreement with Berkeley is that I get to apply to Haas AND Berkeley. If I didn't have my transfer agreement, you can only apply for one (which sucks because if you aim high for Haas and get rejected, you can't get into Berkeley either). Even if I somehow got into Haas, that's some pretty scary stuff. It's like the smartest business students in the world. I'm not cut-throat enough. I'm not deep-throat enough either.
I've been watching a lot of Smallville recently. It's a pretty good show. They started showing old episodes on the Disney channel during dinner. I might start watching the new ones on WB. I'm still debating who would win in a race: Superman, The Flash, Flash Gordon, or Speedy Gonzalez.
It's always fun to compare superheroes with other superheroes. In X-Men 2 the movie, I want to see Bobby aka Iceman take on his buddy Pyrro (that guy who can manipulate fire). But it's also fun to compare superheroes with regular people. For instance, who would win a surfing contest, Silver Surfer or Kelly Slater? Or who would win the World Series of Poker, Gambit or Chris Moneymaker? Or who would win in a battle for most gayness, Northstar or Richard Simmons? Answers are below.
I really want to see The Grudge, but I know if I watch it, it will scare the crap out of my butt. The Ring hecka scared me, and has still messed me up till this day. I have an urge to watch The Ring again, this time in the comfort of my own home, but something tells me it's best to just stick with good ol' fashion romance and comedy movies. Speaking of movies, Raising Helen came out on DVD, but I'll just wait till it's cheap to buy at Blockbuster.
Johnson, i totally understand what you mean by people not associating asians with American/English. I had an interesting experience today at work in the Writing Lab. I was tutoring this caucasian girl today, and this old chinese lady came up to us. The lady asked the caucasian girl if she was the tutor, and she said no. I expected that the lady would then ask me if I was a tutor, you know, by process of elimination, but she didn't! I just looked at her for about 5 seconds, and then finally revealed to her that I was the tutor. She was all surprised. (BTW, I ended up not helping her because the lab closed and I was already off duty half an hour before she arrived, so i told her to come back tomorrow for tutoring. And just another side note, tomorrow's tutor is asian. She's in for another surprise).
It's true, some Chinese people know how to speak Englishes.
answers: Kelly Slater, Chris Moneymaker, Northstar.
