As you can see, this website got a complete makeover. It was pretty frustrating at times because all I wanted to do is change the template, but in doing so, it didn't allow the comments, counter, and my links to show up. So with the help of my brother, we finally got most of the changes done manually. For a time there, I was tempted to switch to Xanga because it looked like a makeover was impossible, but I did not give in to temptation.
So school began for me. It's been real boring these past two days because I have random 1 hour breaks between my 9-3 schedule, so I just hang out in the library or eat lunch by myself. I'll give a quick overview of my classes and revisit this entry sometime late in the year after I'm done to see how they really turned out:
1. Asian American Expierience Since 1820: The teacher is an older chinese guy, but he's pretty humourous (spelled British style). He went through the entire class list and asked us random questions. He asked me where I was from (S.F., although most people answered China/Hong Kong/Vietnam), then asked what high school I was from (Lowell). Then he told the class how much he hated Lowell and Dean Cordoba (I agree). He probably hates me now, and it's only the first day. I should've lied and said I was born in Texas and raised cattle as a little boy. By the way, I should've realized, but there are HECKA HK's in that class. I think I'm the only guy in that class that was born in the U.S.
2. Sociology 1: The teacher is pretty humourous too. This might be a fun class, but he seems pretty strict about certain things, so I just need to make sure I follow his rules.
3. Intermediate Volleyball: I'm not too sure about this class yet. I'd like to play volleyball with Kenny and Pat, but I have a feeling I'm going to be one of the weaker players in the class, so I haven't decided whether I'll stay or drop the class. The teacher said the students need to "be honest" about our talent and whether we belong in this class, and that message felt like she was talking to me. I'll show up the next two class meetings, but if I get the feeling I'm going to be the guy that messes up all the time, I'll drop it faster than a hot potato.
4. Math 80 (Probability and Stats): It's a 4 unit class so it's going to be much more work. I didn't expect to be taking more math, but hopefully this class won't be too painful. The only bad thing about math is you either get it or you don't, unlike English where you can write a paper even if you're not sure if you're doing it correctly. The teacher seems cool and nice though.
5. Music In American Culture: This guy came out and said he was hard since it's an academic class transferable to Berkeley. Shucks. And the worse thing is we're going to study music from the 17th-mid 20th century! That's horrible! He gave us samples of the music and it was all this hillbilly and African American hymns. I was expecting stuff like jazz or piano or guitar pieces. It's also a lot of work too with 1 hour of lab a week, three papers, a midterm and final essay, and midterm and final exams. Plus there's a concert report. I wonder if a John Mayer concert qualifies. Come on, where's the Johnny B. Goode or Ray Charles?!
So that's a brief look into my semester. I haven't started work yet, but that's going to eat up more of my time. I saw someone I tutored in my math class today and I smiled. She glared back at me and didn't smile. Guess I messed her up pretty bad in English.
To conclude, do not, I repeat, do NOT go to TGI Fridays if you want a decent meal. They'll make you wait half an hour to order, bring the check before they bring the desert you ordered, and won't wash their hands after pissing. To top it off, they won't offer 3 out of the 5 deserts on their menu.
