"You have to take a chance on something sometime" - Jim Halpert.

I've started this entry about 4 or 5 times the past week, but it never came out right. I'm sure all you bloggers know what I'm talking about. Sometimes, my entries don't meet the high Lem standards that I set, so rather than post the entry, I'll just leave and write something later.

So here are some highlights of the past week:

1. Went to UCSF library to study with Brian and Alex on Saturday for finals. I kept sneezing because of the carpet and plants in the library. UCSF is much different from CCSF's library. For instance, the table we sat at had Neurology textbooks. The books I see laying around at CCSF are stuff like an Atlas or a History of the Guitar book. I started flipping through the Neurology textbooks and looked at all the pictures. I discovered two things while flipping through those textbooks: 1) I get a dirty feeling after looking at the pictures of diseases, as if I suddenly contracted the disease through the pictures. I just have the urge to wash my hands after flipping through pictures of guys with rashes. 2) Majoring in Econ is nothing compared to a major in the sciences. I hate science, and I cannot understand all those scientific terms, which is why I stayed away from a science major. But it's amazing to me that people can understand all that jibberish in the textbook. It just makes me feel inadequate.

2. Went with Elisa and Kenny to In and Out on Sunday. Elisa was telling me to go to the fellowship because she signed me up and because she was thirsty. I didn't think she was actually serious, but she was. We ended up meeting a lot of interesting kids. Ironically, we'd end up talking to the sister of a guy who yelled "You stupid whore" at a girl in church (Jeff was there in the yard with me). We also hung out with the kid's friend. I didn't know this until the end when Elisa asked for his name, but it was a kid I had witnessed to only three weeks ago!

That really got me thinking about how disconnected I am to these kids, even to the ones I witnessed to. When I first started witnessing back about three years ago, I wrote down the name of every kid I witnessed to so that one day, I can go through the list and see how many are still with our church, or even with a church. That's pretty naive of me. However, I noticed that as the summer went on, I couldn't even distinguish the kids from the list, so I stopped writing down their names. Sunday was proof that I can't even remember a kid I had met 3 weeks ago. I need to get my act together.

And finally on to random notes:

3. Like Jeff, I too am excited about a softball league. I think I just enjoy that team atmosphere, of everyone trying to win and get to know each other better. Of course if we start losing and fight over playing time, then we'll just end up like the Devil Rays. But team chemistry is important, and I think we have that because we're all rooting for each other (that's what we all say, but I'm in a contract year and I have kids to feed and ex-wives to pay). But all you baseball purists know that the number one rule is if Pat leads a bench clearing brawl, you follow. In case you don't know, this is a Christian league too.

4. I've started writing my Best Man speech for the wedding, which is coming up in about 3 weeks. It's too hard for me to just sit down and write it. It's actually been coming to me in spurts while I'm sitting on my lawn chair in my room, or laying in bed. I've got sheets of paper with random things I'd wanna say, but I need to sort things out. If anyone has any advice, I'd be glad to hear it. Pat told me not to read from my notes. Alex told me it's not a good idea to tell my racist jokes, so I'll save those for another occasion.

This will most likely be a speech without any cheese-jokes.

Well, this entry is finally done. Got one more final on Friday and then it's summer! I can't wait to start my Allan Summer Cooking Fest. Until next time.
