This is probably the latest I've ever done a blog entry, and I'm pretty sleepy. But I just had a two hour conversation with Brian and I think it would be good for me to speak my mind right now. I have a lot of things to talk about. I know this is going to end up being a long entry, so for your sake, don't feel the need to have to read all or most of it, or read this entry in a span of a few days. Here goes:
1. We won our 3rd game in CCU softball. I personally let the team down going 0-3 and leaving the bases loaded with one out and also making an error. I would still like to see our team do more tagging up though. I know it may be criticism, but it could add a few more runs if the lead runner from 3rd tagged up with less than two outs because they'll score anyway if the ball drops. Anyway, I'm glad the team picked me up. Hopefully, Javier will also be okay and will come back to play again. I hate seeing a teammate get hurt, and he's always been friendly to me, so I hope he recovers and comes back. The other good news is my toe feels pretty good and I should be able to play CCU Vollyball this Wednesday. Whether or not this will help our team is another story.
2. Well the wedding has come and gone. I thought it was a fun experience, and it took me a while to realize that. Things happened so fast that I didnt really get a chance to see everything happening in front of me. It wasn't until the next day and talking with my brother that I really got the sense that things went well. Here's basically an outline of the wedding highlights:
a. We spent Friday doing rehersals, having a nice dinner, and then going to Lana's house to do those last minute preparations. I ended up having a great time at her house, because it was really the first time all of us (bride, groom, bridesmaids and groomsmen) got together in one room and talked with each other. We had only this one common bond through this wedding, and we somehow gelled together pretty well. That will be a night I won't forget.
b. The wedding didn't start until 11:15, but the wedding started at 6:00 AM for me. All of us guys got together at our house and put on our tuxs together. The camera guy came over and took pictures of us, even while we were changing. So yes, there are pictures out there of me changing in my underwear into a tux, for all you pervs out there. As we left for Lana's house, it started to drizzle, fo shizzle. That got us worried, because rain was expected the entire week. But as soon as we got to Lana's house, the sun came up, and it stayed that way the entire day! I think God had something to do with that. Anyway, it's Chinese tradition that the bridesmaids play some kind of game with us guys in order for us to get into the house. For some reason, they made us pay our way into the house. I thought it was cool, so I paid $20 to get in. Sadly, they never gave us our money back, and I think it cost us $80 to get in. I didn't get the point of that game, but at least the bridesmaids are $80 richer now at my expense.
c. The wedding was at City Hall. I thought it looked beautiful. I have to give major props to everyone who helped out and showed up. Cal did an amazing job as the deputy county general whatever. I thought it was cool to have a friend marry my brother and Lana. It was just great to see all the people help out the entire day and not have to worry if the ushering was problematic, or if something was wrong with the food, or who would help MC, or if there weren't enough flowers for people, or who would be giftrunners or pass out programs, etc., because everyone pitched in and did a great job. So thanks to everyone who made things run smoothly. I can't list every name here, but trust me, I know who you are (because I am all-knowing).
d. Afterwards, we ended up taking pictures at Pier 7, Legion of Honor, and Palace of Fine Arts. It was tiring taking all those pictures, especially with my foot hurting like a bastard. For all of you inventors our there looking to make a fortune, here's a good start: make dress shoes that are comfortable. Taking pictures is really hard work. Smiling isn't so easy after a while. Plus it's hard to "look natural" because I don't find leaning against the wall with one hand and having the other hand in my pocket very natural. But I hope they come out very nice.
e. Dinner was at Yank Sing. It was good food, and had a nice atmosphere. The tough part about the night was that there was a complaint that there was an echo when someone talked on the mic. Yank Sing didn't really care much to fix that problem. I also had to give my best man speech. 1/3 of the people ended up not hearing my speech because of the sound problems of the speakers and amphitheater. 1/3 was totally not caring what I had to say and thought the jellyfish platter was more interesting. 1/3 did hear what I said. Tough crowd, tough crowd. But you have to stick through the speech, even when you look across your shoulder and the entire table is talking amongst each other, but I suppose that's to be expected. Bernard also told me that my previous "girlfriend" story got more "awww" reaction than "haha" reaction. I was hoping to have the "haha" reaction because I like to aim jokes at myself so I don't offend people, but now people are just feeling sorry for me. It's okay people, don't feel bad for me! Actually, I showed my speech to Sarah, the girl who gave the speech after me, the day before the wedding and she ended up feeling hecka sorry for me too. It's like I'm racking up the pity points. Geez, I'm going to be okay!
f. We had time for a few games, which were pretty fun. My cousins were telling me what a goldmine there was of single girls who lined up for the bouquet toss. Then I had to tell them that half of them are my family and the other half is part of my sister in law's side. I guess it'd be okay if we lived in the south. Peony ended up catching it, so I guess she's going to have to get married next. Good luck with that.
Well the wedding has taught me a lot about myself and what's important in life. I hope people who went had a good time. It's going to be fun having a sister-in-law and a brother-in-law.
