So I'm sitting here alone in Berkeley at my new place. My roommates went out to go to their club and I just finished dinner. Today was my first day of school at Berkeley. Let me give you a quick recap of how my day went:
1. I couldn't really sleep last night. Plus I almost felt like I had to stay awake or I'd oversleep and miss all my classes, thus giving the teachers the right to drop me, and I'd end up with 0 units this semester. But I woke up at 8:00. If I were living at home, my retired dad would wake up with me and cook me some special big breakfast and send me on my way. For the first time in my life, he wasn't there to cook me a breakfast. So I had my great breakfast of a cookie and went to class. I think living away from home will finally make me appreciate all the work, cleaning, and cooking my parents do for me. Ultimately, living away from home could be the best thing.
2. I had about 4 hours of class/lab/discussion today. Everything went pretty well I suppose. It's kind of funny because I expected to be a loner in all of my classes (like I was in CCSF) but I saw a few people I recognized. There are people that talked to me today who I never talked to at Lowell, but we recognized each other. There were people I had met through connections of my roommates who are in my classes. And lastly, there was a guy from the CCSF writing lab that recognized me and transferred here too, which was nice considering we had never talked at CCSF but he remembered who I was. The classes itself give the impression that they are going to kick me in the butt. I have a feeling that keeping up with all the assignments and reading will be difficult, but it's all you can really do. I need to get off to a good start. It always takes me about two-three weeks of school to finally get settled in, but I realize that I don't really have that kind of luxury anymore.
3. There's a Quizno's about a block away from my place, so I went there for lunch. I got the meatball sub for those of you wondering (don't really know why you'd care but I'll share with you guys). Anyway, I ate half of it and just sat at my apartment alone since everyone was still at class. My roommates have been really cool and friendly with me. They've made the transition to living away from home a lot easier for me. They even cooked rice for me today for dinner. My dinner consisted of my other half of the Quizno's sub, rice, and a soda. As long as I don't starve, I'll be ok.
I'll be home this weekend and bring back some fruits or vegetables to eat next week. I don't think a cookie and Quizno's diet will be a good thing. There's a Top Dog a block away. Sorry, but Steve's North Korean Barbeque is a little far for me.
There was a fire at my brother's and Lana's house a week ago. You can go check out their website on the link to the right to read about it and see pictures of burnt stuff.
So it's been an eventful weekend for me. Yesterday was the softball championships. I was pretty disappointed at our team's lost, but in the end, it was a good season. I felt like Barry Bonds during Game 7 of the World Series. I just have this image of him engraved in mind of him just standing in the dugout in disbelief after watching slugger Tsyoshi Shinjo go up there to hack against Troy Percival at the wishes of Dusty Baker in the 9th. I didn't have a very good year with the bat or the glove, but as a team we played relatively well. I will have no problem with offseason/preseason training, or even practice during the season if we play again next year. I am one of the few who thinks we shouldn't be in the A division if they put us there. I think BB sounds good, but I'll play in whatever league we are placed. I also have no problem with 2 teams if we decide to split up the groups and everyone is willing to pay a little more. If we do split, I will sign up for the lower division one.
Saturday was Lennie Lau's wedding. It was a good time and I hope he and Steph thought the wedding went well. I had fun making sandwiches, serving sushi and wedding cake, and carrying random items back and forth from the van to restaurant. The best part of the night probably had to be the dance exhibition aka Soul Train featuring Justin, Bernard and Kenny's Mr. Roboto. I only got a 20 second clip on my camera of Bernard, which will be stashed away in my secret files. I would have gotten on the dance floor and showed off some of my moves, but my song never came on (Your Body Is A Wonderland). Guess you guys will never see what I look like when I dance. Ok, I have no moves, but still. I'll post some pictures of the wedding when I get back home this weekend.
I hope all is well with you. Take care.
