Nearly 5 weeks after I interviewed for the Target internship, I got this email today:

Allan,

Thank you for your interest in Target Stores. We appreciate the time that you took to speak with us about opportunities in our stores. While your credentials were impressive, we have decided to pursue other candidates with skills and experience that are more suitable for this position. We will keep your information on file for one year. Should an opportunity arise, we will be back in touch with you. We wish you the best of luck in your career search. Again, thank you for considering Target as a potential employer.

Sincerely,

Target Executive Recruiting Team

Dear Target,

Wow, that's real classy. Thanks for getting back to me so soon. And thanks for this copy-and-paste email you send to everyone who isn't enough of a leader for you. However, a simple "Sorry, Please Try Again" email a week after my interview would have been nicer so I could continue on with my summer internship search. At this time, I've also decided to pursue other activities more suitable to my lifestyle. While you may not see any potential in me like many people I have run into in my life, sometimes, all it takes is a little drive and dedication to get where you want to go. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go work on improving my credentials.

Sincerely,

Allan
