Yesterday, major league pitcher Cory Lidle died in a tragic plane accident. Sadly, a total of four people, including Lidle, were killed because of the crash into a New York building. That's sort of what I don't like about "celebrity" deaths, that the three others who were killed are often overlooked. However, this really isn't the point of my message. Last night after I heard the crash, I went on eBay and typed in "Cory Lidle." There were people selling his autographs and rookie cards for $50-$100. I checked again today and people are posting all their Cory Lidle cards, with one guy even having the balls to include the word "Deceased" in his auction title. I'm the kind of guy who likes to make a quick buck, but there just seems to be something wrong with making money off someone who just died, right? Honestly, I will admit I did have a thought about digging through my cards and finding some Lidle cards to post on eBay, but I remember my brother and I talking a while back when Pat Tillman died about making sure we never tried to make a profit off someone's death. Yes, it's a free country and people are free to do what they want with their Cory Lidle memorabilia. I just hope I never stoop to the level of trying to make money off a tragedy involving a professional athlete. That's just something I wanted to get off my mind.
